To enrich and improve the lives of young adults 18+ with ASD (Autism Spectral Disorder), intellectual and developmental disabilities including those underserved.
To provide opportunities to access educational, recreational and therapeutic/holistic activities to enrich and enhance their lives and well-being.
We believe that young adults 18+ affected with ASD, intellectual and developmental disabilities have needs and desires like everyone else and the ability to attain a reasonable interactive life with society such as the desire to dream and a motivation to learn, to contribute and feel of value, to intermix with society but so many of these adults need support to do so.
We envision a safe, smart and nurturing community in which they could feel at home, have a sense of belonging and live a happy, fulfilling and decent healthy lifestyle. A true community where everyone embraces inclusion, commitment, acceptance and value each other's differences, disabilities or abilities with common humanity, compassion and love.
In the past ten years Autism diagnoses has nearly doubled; representing over 3.5 million Americans (one in 59 children in 2014) and is considered the fastest growing developmental disability among children.
Impacting all racial groups and socioeconomic backgrounds, the US ranks third in the world for per capita Autism cases. Autism causes significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. It is four times more common in boys. The social and economic costs associated with Autism are enormous ranging from increased education, health case and living costs (over $265 billion annually) to social stigmatization and the overall difficulty of young-adults with Autism to obtain suitable employment (35% unemployment).
According to the Mayo Clinic:
"Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Given the complexity of the disorder, and the fact that symptoms and severity vary, there are probably many causes. Both genetics and environment may play a role."
